Well said R.X.
And the fact that the music of that era that we swore would never die is recycled ad nauseum in between each 15 minute commercial break rock blocks on KLOS proves that music will NEVER die!!
It's on life support.
WELCOME TO THE ROCK SHOW!!!
And was Dale Bozzio really that hot? Look at her now.......

ReplyDeleteIs rock music in a trough of a product lifecycle whose amplitude will rise again and crest as mighty as it had before? Or has this star been thrown to the dogs? Some thought Guitar Hero would generate a revival in live music—especially a migration from controllers to actual instruments—but it has largely come and gone and those of us in the live music thing haven’t really seen a change. I believe that if there’s a future in rock music, it will come from the children that grew up watching Disney Channel (and to a lesser degree NIK). Music—from bands as well and just singers—is at the heart of Disney. Kids routinely see others playing, practicing, performing with guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards—it’s cool to play an instrument. Unfortunately (by and large) the young adult crowd has little interest in bands and live music. We live in the era of the DJ and Hip-Hop music and fewer and fewer clubs support live music. There’s still a small bastion to be found in the 40+ group who appreciates real musicians and live performances but the reality is that majority of this group is saddled with life: spouses, kids, jobs, mortgages, etc….
DALE BOZZIO, in the 80’s was the object of many a young boys wet dreams. She was a living Barbie doll. So yes she was HOT, HOT, HOT!!!! Let’s face it, most of us haven’t aged all that well either, but in her day she was smoking. It’s easy to criticize but how many of us have been on a “Sexiest list?” None! That’s what I thought; she was in Playboy which is a very small and selective group.
Oh man, I must have 6 brain cells left. How did I screw up my first post? Ok again!!! Geno, You know I'm stuck in 1968-1980. So I'll have to follow the zen master to catch up.

Frank, Have Faith there is hope. I am watching it happen before my eye's. Your observation about guitar hero, Disney and Nik are spot on. My 13 year old and his pal were arguing over George Harrison one day while I was driving them around. I asked them how they even knew about GH. These kids find the music first. The best Beatles Mix CD I've ever heard was the one these two 13 year olds made. They get into the music, then want to know about the musicians. My kid then stumbled upon a piano and sat down to fool with it. A week later he was playing Clocks by Cold Play. That was a year ago. He's now playing nice Stratocaster through a great vintage Fender Blues Tube Amp. He came home last night from Guitar lessons to show ME the correct rendition of The Needle and the Damage Done. All of a sudden we have cute young girls hanging here and other kids stopping by to play the electronic Keyboard a neighbor gave us. All this pulled me into taking guitar with him. These kids are so used to video games and being whipped into a "feeding Frenzy" over a new game. I see that happening when they latch on to music. It is uplifting. Go to the Altar on a Sturday or Sunday (Guitar Center) and see how many younger kids and 20 somethings are in there trying out stuff. We have to drive 30 miles to get to Guitar Center. It is our "quality time". One caveat. This has not translated well to my Wife. She has surrendered her living room to a music studio. Tile floors and high ceilings = great accoustics. Have faith. None other than Big Gene himself has contributed many of his "big genes" too the pool and has produced a rocker. I see a renaisance of R n R within 5 years. I Believe.
